 FreneticaBy: MarquessReviewed by: amg bensberg

The four band members were on a holiday in Spain in 2006 where they were in the hotel ‘Marques’, so they called the band ‘Marquess’.
In August 2006 their debut single ‘El Temperamento’ was released. One month later they made their first album ‘Marquess’. The most popular song is ‘Vayamos Companeros’. This song was on second chart position in Germany. Up to today they have edited three albums: Marquess, Frenetica and ¡Ya!.
Their first single was their first hit. ‘El Temperamento’ describes a man who has fallen in love and wants to know where a girl goes. The song isn’t really eventful because the message of each part of the song is the same. The music is rhythmical with guitar elements. It has got a Spanish character with the typical party sound of Mallorca.
On the album there are twelve tracks, but nine of them are very similar, except for ‘El Temperamento’, ‘Vayamos Companeros’ and ‘You and not Tokyo’. One of these nine songs is ‘Lo Siento y Adios’. This song is very dull, because the song hasn’t got any message and the text makes no sense. Besides, it contains six verses with the same content.
The last exception to the standard songs is the love song ‘You and not Tokyo’, featuring S.A.M.. It’s a combination of the languages English and Spanish. But it takes a bit to get used to it. A song in two languages is a rarity, but the spirited ‘Marquess’ and the romantic ‘S.A.M.’ do not fit.
All in all, it’s a boring album with nine songs which have the same style and only three exceptions which are popular. The Number One ‘Manana’ is disappointing with an illogical song text about ‘I don’t know’. There are no highlights in the nine standard songs. So you must be a lover of boring music if you want to listen to this album.
In conclusion, the ‘Marquess’ album ‘Frenetica’ is disappointing. Weighing the pros and cons, all songs are similar and all have illogical song texts. What a shame.
