2007, when the career of Amy MacDonald began, she started a breakthrough. Her first and only album “This is the Life” was on pole position in the German charts. The same year the Scottish newcomer got the Silver Clef Award and the Daily Record. In 2009 she got Europe’s most important music award as the best international newcomer: The Echo. Most of her songs are written by herself. The songs of the album seem to be a combination of country and pop music with a guitar tone.


It is certainly no surprise that our favourite track from the album is “This Is The Life”. The song gives the album a perfect start. Moreover, it is conspicuous that the chorus is often repeated - maybe to underline the message of the lyrics. This turns the track into a catchy tune. It is the most successful track from the album and it stormed the Top of the Pops. So it might be everyone’s favourite song on the album.

Another good song on the album is “L.A.”. If you listen to the music, you can imagine a trip with a cabriolet through the Highways of Los Angeles, when the sun is shining and the air is blowing through your hair. The lyrics, which are easy to understand, fit perfectly to the melody. While listening to the song, a summer feeling awakes in your mind.

But of course there are some bad songs on this album, too, for instance the last track. “The Road to Home” is surely the worst of them. It is a song that doesn’t need to be on the CD. The melody is quite boring and it’s too similar to Katie Melua’s “The closes thing to crazy”.

“Footballer’s Wife” is, in contrast, a nice song from the album which is representing the style of the artist in a perfect way. It’s a guitar ballad that deals with a few V.I.P.s who are already dead. The singer’s voice is awesome for this melancholic song. It’s definitely one of the best tracks on the album.


After listening to the album for a few times, it is easy to hear that most of the songs from this album sound the same. As many albums, only few songs are great and catch the ear. This is evidence enough that we recommend this album only to people who adore guitar songs. For those people who do not like this kind of music it is not profitable to buy this album. They should only buy the single “This Is The Life”.
